“Stylist X is fitting Celeb X with Dress X
which was just edited out from Celeb B’s fitting .
Celeb Y still has Dress Y which she got fro m Stylist Y
who is sharing looks with Stylist Z because
they have the same agent”
DID YOU GET ALL THAT?
That’s the sort of thing I’ve tweeted over the past few years when it’s come to award show season and celebrity dressing. It’s not an easy conversation to follow, but yet I think we can all agree that it’s really interesting to understand how red carpet dressing actually happens. The process itself is so exhausting. it’s practically a miracle anyone dresses anyone. It’s about relationships and of course THE DRESS. But ultimately you’re competing against racks of other gowns and dozens of opinions. Sometimes you get lucky, sometimes you don’t. When it comes to high evening, our red carpet weapon of choice is #DonnaKaranAtelier, a capsule of custom gowns that are designed outside of the seasonal runway collection. With a couture sensibility, these gowns are nothing short of breathtaking, with attention to detail and structure that would put any girl wearing one on the best dressed list. Since Atelier’s launch we’ve had a really nice run on the carpet. But it’s not all roses and it takes a lot of blood, sweat and tears too.
Seeing that misery loves company, we thought we’d share the process with you. Introducing our new #DonnaKaranAtelier Facebook app which allows fans to follow the journey visually & interactively. Keeping in the spirit of mystery, you won’t know for whom and you won’t even know what the dress looks like in totality until the end, but our visual teasers will entice you to join us on the road to the red carpet. In the end, if we succeed, you’ll have been on the journey with us.
Think of this as Celebrity Dressing 2.0.
It’s the digital answer to being a fly on our celebrity wall. From visual inspiration to sketch, to Celeb X & Y fittings, to hopefully landing on the red carpet. The trick though is, you won’t know what the dress REALLY looks like or who CelebX is until you see them on the red carpet.
Are you ready for the journey? Use the #DonnaKaranAtelier hashtag to join the conversation.
Grab your popcorn and buckle up for safety.
